National Innovation Strategy
The UAE Government reinforced its commitment to innovation, accelerating the country's journey to global leadership in its field. In October 2014, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum introduced a UAE National Innovation Strategy designed to position the UAE among the most innovative countries in the world. It is a primary tool to achieve Vision and an engine for the growth of distinctive skills and capabilities across the nation. The strategy will stimulate innovation in seven sectors, where innovation is key to excellence in renewable energy, transport, education, health, technology, water, and space.
The strategy will have four tracks:
- The first track will establish a stimulating environment for innovation in the form of supportive institutions and laws
- The second track will develop government innovation through innovative institutionalising practices with the support of an integrated system of modern tools. The strategy requires all government entities to adapt to the latest technologies while reducing spending and dedicating a particular portion of the savings to research and innovation projects.
- The third track will encourage private sector innovation by stimulating companies to establish innovation and scientific research centres where the latest technologies will be rapidly adopted, accelerating innovative product development and service delivery.
- The fourth track will prepare individuals with highly innovative skills by concentrating on science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Emirates Blockchain Strategy
The Emirates Blockchain Strategy aims to capitalise on blockchain technology to transform 50 per cent of government transactions into the blockchain platform by 2021. By adopting this technology, the UAE government expects to save AED 11 billion in transactions and documents processed routinely, 398 million printed documents annually and 77 million work hours annually.

The strategy supports setting up legislation for the development of autonomous transportation, the first initiative of its kind in the world. Abu Dhabi Vision 2030
In 2006, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Executive Council, mandated the General Secretariat of the Executive Council, the Abu Dhabi Council for Economic Development and the Department of Planning and Economy to develop a long-term economic vision for the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The Abu Dhabi Vision 2030 focuses on building a sustainable economy while ensuring a balanced social and regional economic development.
