Ras Al Khaimah Will Host First Used Battery Recycling Facility

The UAE's first battery recycling facility will be constructed in Ras Al Khaimah with a Dh62.4 million investment by Royal Gulf Industries.

This cutting-edge lead acid battery recycling business has joined the Ras Al Khaimah Economic Zone (RAKEZ industrial) ecosystem. The new firm, a Hyderabad Castings Limited division, and a Nakhat Group member will develop the nation's first environmentally friendly automobile battery recycling facility on around 110,000 ft2 of property in the Al Ghail Industrial Zone.

When it opens in the fourth quarter of 2022, Royal Gulf Industries' plant will have more than 150 workers.

According to the business, up to 35,000 metric tons of spent lead acid batteries will be recycled yearly. In addition, this will result in 2,400 metric tons of plastic granules and 21,500 tons of lead ingots.

These materials will mainly be supplied to Europe, India, Japan, Korea, China, and other Asian countries for producing new lead acid batteries and casings. In the UAE, 58% of lead acid battery waste is recycled due to this operation.

During a recent signing ceremony between the two parties conducted at the RAKEZ Compass Co-working Centre, Ramy Jallad, Group CEO of RAKEZ, and Yogesh Nakhat Jain, managing director of Royal Gulf Industries, signaled the start of the building of the recycling plant.

"We are eager to begin our adventure in the United Arab Emirates, where we will sustainably recycle battery trash. To create Ras Al Khaimah, a centre for recycling, we intend to gather used batteries not just from the United Arab Emirates but also from outside, according to Hanuman Mal Nakhat, chairman of Royal Gulf Industries.

"RAKEZ has helped us every step as we've brought this enormous project to life. As a result of the help we have gotten for our company registration and the expansion of our business in the UAE, our customer experience has been fantastic thus far, he stated.

During the past three years, as the company's set-up formalities were being planned, Ras Al Khaimah hosted him and his team during their visits. “From coordinating with government agencies including the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, the Environment Protection and Development Authority, the RAK Municipality, the Waste Management Authority, and others on our behalf to get the necessary permissions," he said.

He said that the group also assisted us in connecting with construction firms and finding the appropriate suppliers.

By providing us with all the assistance and support we need in our business, "We are convinced that RAKEZ will continue to play a critical part in the achievement of our goal," the man continued.

Jallad declared: "We are honored to serve as the UAE location of Royal Gulf Industries' innovative recycling facility. The leadership of Ras Al Khaimah has been working toward environmental sustainability. Royal Gulf Industries thereby complements the efforts of the emirate together with other RAKEZ enterprises in the closed-loop supply chain.

He said these businesses contribute to the nation's non-oil GDP and further the national sustainability strategy. Therefore, we are devoted to helping them achieve their objective of influencing the earth by fostering a cooperative industrial ecology.

In Ras Al Khaimah, Royal Gulf Industries intends to invest roughly Dh125 million and create 350 jobs during its second phase, which will last for three years. The business also wants to establish worldwide supply networks by making the UAE a centre for recycling metals.
