The trademark laws in Oman comply with the Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPs). Trademarks are valid for ten years in Oman, and patents are protected for 20 years. The set of procedures and documents to register a trademark or patent in Oman is as follows:

  • The trademark and patent registration application is to be submitted to the Intellectual Property Department at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI).
  • The department will examine the application to ensure the patent or trademark can be registered.
  • Once the objections have been resolved, the department will accept the application published in the official gazette and the local newspaper.

Documents Required for Trademark Registration in Oman

Below is the list of documents required to do trademark registration in Oman;

  • A copy of the applicant's commercial registration documents
  • Details of goods and services for which the trademark is being registered
  • The power of attorney to be issued to the concerned trademark attorney in Oman
  • A copy of the trademark proposed to be registered in Oman in its original color
  • A power of attorney (notarized and legalized) up to the Consulate of Oman
  • Abstract of the invention in English and Arabic
  • A notarized copy of the certificate of incorporation of the applicant in the Arabic language
  • Technical specification of the invention in English and Arabic
  • A certified copy of a priority document
  • A copy of the deed assignment from the inventor(s) in Arabic translation (legalized)
  • A copy of the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) publication, with the Arabic translation, if the work has been published
